Teeeeething pains....

Teething is probably the most painful thing for both mom and baby. Not only do we as mothers feel helpless and frustrated, but also your Child is suffering and miserable, causing yourself to become more frustrated. Can you tell that my child is teething?
She is up allot at night now, which is unusual to us as she has been a pleasurable baby and sleeping through the night since 9 weeks. I might be sounding like a spoilt mother, but I am serious: I am tired and getting fed up with being up for three hours or more at night. I am not used to this and therefore am like a drained tap: tired and Energy-less. And while my daughter can have naps during the day- I have other chores to do as a Housewife and mother. On the other hand I want to have naps too, but then lay down and all the chores I should be doing are running through my head! So whats the point?
What I do realise is that this is just a season and it will pass. There is so much more to motherhood and raising a child!
Just this morning my husband and I agreed that even though during the night we get so frustrated and want to give up this parenting thing because we are tired and have had enough of interrupted sleep. But the next morning when our Princess wakes up the grass is green again; and during the day when she lays and coos and laughs at us playing the fool, all those nasty thoughts go away and all the cuteness makes up for all those hard nights. We forgive our children and have the willpower to do it all over again! It's a beautiful and God-given act.
I do feel so sorry for them: their little bodies are in such pain and have to learn to deal with this new feeling of pain and discomfort. Their little fingers are very busy being chewed or being used to feed hard, welcome toys to soothe those itchy sore gums. My daughter loves her Biltong: Its hard and chewable and the bonus is it tastes good!
As must as I am loathing the teething stage, I am loving the new stage of sitting and exploring, and definitely enjoying the personality peeping through showering me with smiles and love!

10 things being a mom entails.

1. Time is never your own. Although it is for much better reasons, if you plan your day, don't be surpirsed if  those  plans change radically.

2. Never expect yourself or your clothes to stay clean! This one os a biggie. Whether it's puke, food, drool or sticky fingers, you can never wear two things twice.

3. Sleep is underrated. whether you have a baby that sleeps through or not, you can never have enough sleep. This goes for 1 or more children.

4. Your House does not stay the same after having a child. It doesn't matter if you have a mish-mash house or a modern sleek home; Toys are always bountiful.

5. You can never have enough wetwipes at hand! Always have them close by.

6. Dummies/Pacifiers are your best friend. When anything else doesn't work to calm your child- the Dummy will.

7. Your handbag will never be the same agian: From now on it will be filled with anything that you will need for your child. And if it isnt filled already, things will always fins its way there or your child will find something to fill it with.

8. If you think that you and your husband created alot of washing- then think again. When you have a baby your washing doesn't double- but triples it size- keeping you very busy!

9. Your cellphone becomes your childs favourite toy- even if he/she has many other toys to play with; This one beats the cake!

10. Last but not least: if you thought that your Love has stretched beyond capacity-think again! When becoming a parent it teaches you a whole new dimention to Love and how it stretches you to new hights!

...plus the kitchen sink.....

When leaving the house one always has to make sure you have everything when touring with a Baby. This means an extra set of clothing or two- as you never know (see my post "watch out for the Prunes..."). Nappies, wetwipes, bum cream the lot. Then you need toys, a burp cloth for those moments unexpected, the list could go on and on. In the end basically it's two of everything and anything you can think of that you might need. And as you know the saying goes: "I even have the Kitchen sink". Because literally a mother with a nappy bag has everything. I even have a spare spoon for if I am out and have to buy food, right down to a pen and sample bum creams in case I happen to run out... If a spill had to happen a mom is quick to whip out the wet wipes and clean.
As necessary as it is to have a nappy bag around, there are moments when I don't feel like the 'shlep' to carry around the Mary Poppins Bag; I just want to feel 'normal'. Even then there is always a nappy/diaper and bum cream in my handbag...sad I know! But that is the reality when you are a mom.
A nappy bag can never be too big, but when you have a big nappy bag, then its complain complain because its too big and its heavy-blah blah blah. But when it gets down to the wire, having a bag filled with all the necessities for a little person, it has saved me so many times... extra clothes-extra everything!
I must say though, when you go out its always nice to palm the heavy bag filled with an endless supply of everything to the husband, he can carry it! On the other hand it can be stored in the basket compartment of the pram; which I find a mission: I have to squeeze it in, as the bag is actually bigger than the basket! I don't win do I! haha.

The bags are there for a reason, and when you are buying all your baby attire a nappy bag is an important component. Whether for design, pattern or practicality purposes. what shocks me is that there are simple bags that can cost up to R1000. This price for a bag that carries a whole lot of extras around??
